The Foundation was established
in honor and memory of ELIZABETH ANNA WARCHOT, a very special little girl who lost a valiant battle with leukemia soon after
her sixth birthday. Elizabeth was born August 22, 1995 and was diagnosed with leukemia when she was two years old. For most
of her short life, she was fighting her disease. During her long and often painful illness, she forever touched the hearts
of those around her by her unlimited optimism, her compassion for others, her strong will, and her eagerness to learn new
things.
Elizabeth experienced
and loved life with an intensity and depth of understanding well beyond what one would have expected at her tender age. The
way she saw her condition and circumstances can be expressed best by one of her favorite and often used sayings: “Life
is good”. Those who sought to raise her spirits during difficult times would often be surprised, if not astonished,
at her abounding joy and they would leave with smiles on their faces after a conversation with her. She constantly amazed
even her doctors with her positive attitude.
Elizabeth was determined
to share her love of life with her family, her friends, and even strangers. She
spent much of her time drawing pictures and she showed real artistic talent. When she knew someone was sick or feeling bad,
she would give them some of her art work to cheer them up. Attending school and learning new things was always important
to Elizabeth. Her biggest regrets were when her illness prevented her from attending
her classes.
The Because of Elizabeth
Foundation, Inc. was established to carry on the spirit of Elizabeth’s desire to help others and her love of education.
“Because of Elizabeth” other young girl’s will have the opportunity
to believe as Elizabeth had: “Life is good.”
